I was thinking a lot about sports this morning. The service was wrapped around being an agent for God in coaching our kids. You can view this message “The Kids Rock The House” online Monday afternoon on our sermons page. Being a good parent is like being a good coach.
While my mind was racing about sports… I started thinking about great teams. Teams that make it to the Super Bowl. A few thoughts occurred to me:
1) These teams play hard every single week. They don’t let up. They improve each and every week.
2) The players on these teams play hurt sometimes. The push through the pain to make big plays.
3) These teams win. They put the ball across the goal line over and over. They put points on the score board.
4) They play together… every player executes every play. They work together to defeat the opponent.
5) When one game is over they focus on the next one. Though they learn from the past... they don’t live in the past.
6) These teams have momentum… big time.
I think God wants the local church to play like a Super Bowl team.
Each week… as far as that goes… each morning we step onto the playing field. The question is… “Will we play like a Super Bowl team?”
The Bible makes it clear that …He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. When God’s momentum starts the results are winning and growth.
I want to thank each player on the Barefoot team for playing to win. God is doing some amazing things through our church. We had another record attendance today (535) outside of the Easter services. People are stepping into the Kingdom each week and walking towards Jesus. May I encourage us not to let up, to play hurt sometimes, to give 100% each week, each play… and watch God coach our team to the Super Bowl. I love playing with you all.
