What is Success?

Yesterday some of our team had the opportunity to hear Keith Cote speak on leadership. It was off the chain. My battery is recharged each time that I am around leaders. It sharpens me and reminds me to keep doing what God has called me to do. Life is about connecting People to the their full God potential. To do that people have to step into a relationship with Jesus. Yesterday Keith asked, "What is success?" I thought about that for a minute and I truly believe that success for me as a leader is... To get people from where they are to where they need to be! That takes a whole team of people. That is simply why we are building a leadership team at Barefoot Community Church.

Enjoy the notes from the meeting yesterday... Thanks again to Regena for taking such great notes for the team. You always pull your part of the wagon.

Sports Lessons for Leadership
· Play to Win: overcome adversity to put yourself in the position to win.
· Find a coach to help build you as a leader.

How to Achieve Success

Take a step from being a good leader to a better leader!
Leaders are always prepared “Prepare for war during peace time”
Leaders never do it alone, you need others.
Leaders know where they are going, their vision is clear.
Leaders surround themselves with people who support them, not take away from them.
Leaders want others to succeed.
Leaders spend time in a community of leaders.
Leaders have clarity of vision.

Leadership Environment
Be real – be who you were created to be.
Accept and appreciate other people, even those who are different than you.
Release people to do their job their own way. As long as the end result matches the desired result, let people be who they are meant to be.

Discover How to be a Better Leader
Good leaders have fun; but better leaders create an environment of fun. This improves productivity and internal health.
It is good to have money, but it is better to give money. Be a giver.
It is good to build yourself up, but better to build others up.
It is good to have moral standards, but better to set the standards.
It is good to set aside time for family, but better to set your family before business
It is good to spend time with your spouse and children, but better to create moments to remember. This takes planning and effort and should be significant to be memorable.
It is good to have beliefs, but better to have those beliefs shape who you are in all areas and daily decisions of your life.

You have to know this! Good leaders will develop themselves, better leaders will develop others.

Figure out who your training partners are. Who are you training with?

Becoming a better leader requires training with intensity and commitment like never before. Adversity will come, you need to be prepared.

2 Samuel 23:9 Story about Eleazar, one of David’s three mighty men.
9 Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty men, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim for battle. Then the men of Israel retreated, 10 but he stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.

Succeed in your personal life and with your family. How many people look back on their life and say “I wish that I’d spend more time at the office working”?

The battle is not about money, but about people’s lives!

Hey, I found this while reviewing some of what we learned at the summit and considering what it means to be a leader today. C.S. Lewis said, “Progress is only made into the “resistance material” (that material that is currently being resisted by the trends and fads of the day) by preaching the whole of the Gospel and the Word of God.
This probably jumped out to me because I am teaching on the supremacy of God's Word in ministry while I am in Africa next month.
I believe that of all the gifts and strengths the Lord has blessed our church with, His Word is our ultimate source of victory. Thank you for being a man of the Word and not just a growth guru.
Just a thought.
