I was talking with Shonn this morning and we were talking about faith and obedience. There is some cool stuff in God's Word about people who have walked this journey. Check these people out. All of these people experienced life abundantly... they were on the journey with God.
The book of James says... "faith without works = dead faith". I think we can say the opposite is true too when we take a stroll through the Scriptures. Obedience or work is dead when it is not accompanied by faith in God. When we trust ourselves over God this is not faith. I think there is a boat load of people who are good people and not faithful people. They think their goodness comes from themselves.
Example... I can overcome filthy language out of my own will power but is that faith in God? It could be... or it could it be obedience without faith? Just because someone is obedient does not always mean they trust God. This is hard to identify and only God knows the answer.
On the other hand I think the same is true. Someone can have true faith and they may be disobedient in a certain area of their life. This does not mean they are not true believers in Christ. They just need to trust Him in that area... If they were trusting Him in the disobedient area it would and could change it.
When we are not experiencing life to the fullest it's either a faith problem or an obedience problem or both. Paul said that he learned to find joy in all circumstances. He had faith that led to obedience that led to more faith that led to more obedience that led to more faith and on and on. It is a stairway that we can all follow if we choose to.
